I’d Never Believe I’d Say This…

but i’m starting to feel pity for the Murlocs.  I mean have you seen them over on the Sunwell Island recently? I decided to take a flight out to the Sunwell Island now that Ironforge gives us a non-stop Griffon there.  After landing and checking in with the locals, recieved a few missions. (more on those later..).

I decided to go check out and see what kind of game lived here.  Well, let me tell you. I haven’t seen any game here!!! I knew something was up when riding around the countryside and not finding any of the Nesingwary boys pestering me to fetch about 100 tusks from some exotic beast.

Not saying there’s nothing for a hunter to do, mind you.  You can go hunt those Goblin Wannabe Robots (earn about 7g bounty).  Even head on out and put a few Arcane Junkies out of their misery, poor saps.  Not to mention take out some pesky Demons.

The biggest surprise, was heading out to find some Dark Iron Ore that was locked up somewhere. You won’t believe me, but I found some pesky Naga. (Always new them Bloodelves were in league with them bloody, slitherin, hissing, Snakeskins (haha).  Anyways, while looking close I noticed that those Naga seem to be forcing some poor, yes I said poor, Murlocs to do their bidding.  Well, I couldn’t stand for that.  I began wasting those slithering humanoids (and I use that term loosly) left and right.  After about 15 of them I got my 3 keys and opened up some chests that the Murlocs just handed over to me.

After all that hard work, it just made some sense to me that we might need to rethink those lil guys, that speak like they’re gargling some Dwarven Fire Ale.

Talking about ale!  I’m parched.  Catch you back next time.

Mythbusters - MM Hunter Edition

You know something? There’s a lot of myths that go on about Hunters. There’s even more that go on about MM Hunters. I figure, if I’m being brought here to The Hunting Lodge to represent the few insane PVE MM Hunters left (are there any left besides me?), I might as well do so.

Myth: Marksmanship Hunters should always gear, enchant, and gem for Attack Power instead of Agility.
Wrong. While Blizzard may say that 2 AP == 1 Agility, they couldn’t be further from the truth. The reasoning is that Agility scales better because Agility gives us crit chance (plus scales with Blessing of Kings in a dungeon/raid environment). It’s a matter of diminishing returns, you see. 14 Attack Power will always give you 1 DPS on the paper doll, which is affected by your haste from your quiver/ammo pouch, meaning it’s 1.15 DPS (or that 12 ATP, roughly, is 1 DPS post-quiver). However, as your DPS starts getting higher and higher, 1 DPS is a lot less of a percentile increase. At 100 DPS, 1 DPS is a 1% increase. At 1000 DPS, it’s a .1% increase. :P Critical Strikes don’t have this issue. Additionally, not all of our shots get a pure increase from AP like that - Multi-Shot uses calculated weapon damage, Steady Shot only gets a partial coefficient, and so forth. Critical Strikes are always there, causing the shot to do 230% damage instead of 100% damage. Agility scales more elegantly than pure Attack Power, and the Attack Power that we get FROM Agility is still affected by our talents. :)

Myth: Marksmanship Hunters can compete with Beast Mastery Hunters for raid DPS at high levels of gear.
Wrong. As much as I’d love to say that MM can be competitive like it was in the old days when 0/21/30 was “the way to go”, it can’t be. It all goes back to what I said in the previous myth - it’s all a matter of scaling. Serpent’s Swiftness (I’ll use the proper name on The Hunting Lodge to avoid confrontation) provides the Hunter (and his pet) a passive 20% Haste, similar to the quiver. The problem here lies in the fact that Haste scales perfectly. 20% Haste is practically always 20% more DPS - this isn’t entirely true if you use Arcane and Multi-Shot, but the Haste lets you use the 3:2 (or 1:1) macro and make it true. Until your Haste is so extreme that your Auto-Shot timer falls below 1.5 seconds, more Haste is an equivalent amount of more DPS. Attack Power, Critical Strike chance, and every other talent in Marksmanship does not scale nearly as elegantly, and this is why that Beast Mastery will top Marksmanship in any situation. Even IF the Marksmanship Hunter stacks Haste, it takes an inordinate amount of Haste Rating (317) to match the benefits of Serpent’s Swiftness, and while the MM Hunter stacks Haste, the Beast Mastery Hunter can stack Attack Power, Crit Rating, Agility, or Intellect, boosting his damage, too.

Caleria of The Empty Quiver Discusses Macros

I know. I know. Your probably saying, haven’t we covered macros enough???  Well, it seems that this is an elusive topic for many hunters.  I mean you’d think that these things were created by those pesky Gnomes just because they can’t be Hunters! :P

I hope you’ll visit Caleria over at The Empty Quiver and give it a read.  As I always say, the more arrows in our quiver, the better the hunt!!
