Hunting Gruul
Good-day Fare Traveler,
I see you have decided to stop by the Lodge today and grab a bit of fresh ale and maybe some ribs!! (We’re famous for our Clefthoof Ribs by the way!)
I myself just returned from a successful hunt for Gruul. After becoming King of the Ogres, we were informed that Gruul was still trying to exert his influence over those poor Ogres’s. (And as Scout has told us, they are becoming very capable hunters!!)
So to put an end to this campaign by Gruul to enslave our new large (albeit not very bright) Ogre allies, twenty-five (25) of us adventurers banded together to go and put an end to this scourge!!
It was a dank, dark cave, full of the scent of rotting corpses and blood. As we ran in, it became immediately apparent that Gruul still maintained some ogres in support. Although feeling bad for these poor souls it became rapidly apparent that they were deep under Gruul’s spell.
Our first encounter was with the patrol. Knowing that if we didn’t pull him back closer to the entrance, his fellow ogres would hear his cry of alarm and come rushing to his aid. We being a motley crew didn’t feel the risk was necessary, and this would give us a good test to see how we worked as a team.
Our fearless leader explained his strategy, as our tank began to get into position. Then we were seen, we received a shout for help. All of us spring into action, rushing to the aid of our fallen comrade. Feeling emboldened we continued forward, taking out 2 more powerful Ogres. Another Brute and an even more feared, Gronn-Priest. Both were overcome by the shear numbers and force of our party.
As we crept deeper into the lair, we stumbled upon a strange sight, an Ogre council! We assumed that these have sold their souls to Gruul for his maddening power. Knowing that he was fanatically loyal, we hatched a plan to separate each council member limiting their ability to combine and attack or heal each other.
It was a tough battle, our hunters, rogues, warlock continued volley after volley, while our Priests, Shamans, and Paladins valiantly tried to keep us alive. Many were lost. Luckily, our part was blessed to succeed by Elune and the Priests, paladins and Shamans could all resurrect our fallen heroes so we could continue our march towards Gruul himself.
We continued our march forward, finally reaching the lair. The stench was overbearing, rotting corpses strewn across the floor. We all marched in. Closing the gates behind us to prevent Gruul’s escape, we proceeded to battle him.
We faced the power of Gruul head on. With each volley and strike Gruul made the ground shake, bringing upon our heads the very rocks and cave from above. Yet we continued valiantly fighting. Arrows, bullets, pets and minions nipping and firing volley after volley. We continued sending volley after volley, with every judgment by the Paladins, and sword strike and shield bash from the Warriors. Druids in full bear from swapping and biting the demon until finally, he fell.
After a short celebration, we all looked around and mourned our losses. Praying that these fallen heroes could be called back from the nether to help join into the celebrations we looked to our Healers. As they resurrected each and every soul, our party’s mood lightened. We began to search for loot and every member celebrated one of the most valiant and greatest victories of our time!!
Well my friend, that is the tale of the downing of Gruul. And as I drink this ale to you and your adventure, I only hope you to see you on our next major hunt! Maybe as we take down Magtheridon or Nightbane.
Fare the well adventurer. May your axe be sharp, and your quiver full of arrows.
