Hunting in the Plaguelands

Hey there! Pull up a chair have a mug of Aerie Peak Pale Ale, and I’ll tell you a tale of hunting out in the Plaguelands.

You see, what are now known as the Plaguelands, use to be wonderful and beautiful. It was home to the Capital City of Lordaeron until that fateful day and the Plague of Undeath was spread via the grain. Everything there became corrupted thanks to Kek’Thuzad and his Cult of the Damned.

The poor folks over in Stratholme never had a chance. The plague was unleashed and those that could not escape either died, became corrupted, or fell to some other gruesome fate too horrible to imagine.

It was here while mining Mithril Ore that I came across the some of the most unspeakable wretches, Abominations, Ghosts, Ghouls, Oozes, Wraiths and Zombies… But the Diseased Grizzly.. brr.. still sends shivers down my spine.

Imagine all of the fury of a normal Grizzly.. Worse than even the time I had to take on the Dreaded Den Mother and her cubs. These bears would sniff you out faster than a spider and hit you three times as hard.

They would chase you endlessly. Forcing you either to run into the town full of Ghouls, Abominations or out into the lake hoping you would be able to swim to safety only to land ashore in a worse state than you began.

One time I was pinned up by one of these Grizzlies. My back up against the mountains bordering a cave full of oozes. I sent in my pet. Hoping to distract it. But to no avail. It only swiped it away, only to start charging me. I thought maybe I could Feign Death and it would only sniff and decide to leave me alone. But that disgusting grizzly knew I was only faking and pounded me harder. Trying to dodge its burly maul I did the only thing I had left. I threw out a Freeze Trap hoping to buy some time and bandage up. Then I used every trinket and started firing arrows as fast as I could. Finally, I downed that wretched animal.

So young traveler be careful in the Plaguelands. You’ll never know when one of those wretched beasts might sneak up behind you.

I think I’ll have ale to calm my nerves….

  1. Great post, Brig :)

I really like the lore behind the Western and Eastern Plaguelands. But when trying to quest there, things can get messy very quickly. A bit like it is in Silithus, I suppose. For my Paladin WPL was an AoE Paradise, but for my Rogue it was a challenge just to ride through and not die. :P

  2. :) I agree with you. It’s one of the most tragic of areas within the game. I guess it’s also one of the reasons I can’t wait to see the WoTLK. And check out Stratholme in all its glory in the new CoT instance. :)
