Ghostcrawler Admits Mistake – And Announces Corrections to Come

A couple of days ago I wrote about Ghostcrawler’s responses to hunter’s regarding the recent changes in 3.0.8.  (post)

It was interesting to see the feed back.  Some felt that there was many hunters were whining about nothing.  Some felt that the intense feelings were justified.  Nonetheless, there are many feelings on either side.

So now we come to a new wrinkle.  It seems that even Ghostcrawler himself feels that the BM tree was hit a too hard. (source)

We talked about it a great deal today and agreed that we probably over-nerfed BM. Marks is in a good spot and Survival might be too high once we look at the changes we are making to all other classes. – Ghostcrawler

Now before you get all excited.  Look at what GC says immediatly after that statement.  He feels that MM is in a good spot. (Hmm.. okay I think Rilgon would agree.) But that Survival is too high.  Now that may or may not be true.  I think if you’d ask Xumio or other SV hunters they may disagree.  So on this I will just stay out of that debate.

Also look at the end of the statement, the changes ar being made at the same time  they look at “…changes we are making to all other classes.

To me personally?  This again shows how little either WE understand our role and class or how misguided Blizzard is.   Because if we’re to be compared to other classes, then what do we get compared against?  Mages, Warlocks, Moonkin Druids,  Shamans or do we get compared against Rogues, Fury Warriors, Ret Paladins, Death Knights??  This is my concern.   I can only hope that the comparisons are done with the understanding that we are a PURE RANGED DPS class and not just a PURE DPS CLASS.  This small distinction is, in my opinion, enough to say Hybrid and Melee classes should not be considered.  Also, comparing damage against caster classes is difficult but at least a bit more fair.

Anyways, back to the point.  Ghost crawler goes on to say that they are planning to buff the BM spec in time for the 3.1 Ulduar patch.  For you hoping to go back to the days of Steady Spam, it ain’t happening.  But they are looking in the right direction for the BM spec.  They’re looking at how BM relies on the Hunter’s relationship with their pet. WHOOT!! HALLELUJAH!!! There is hope after all!!

Our plan is to buff BM before Ulduar, but I can’t give you a timetable more detailed than that, and things could change for any number of reasons. We are unlikely to touch Steady Shot for the reasons I have mentioned before. We are more likely to look at Kindred Spirits and Serpents Swiftness again. - Ghostcrawler

Now as usual, all of this comes with the standard caveats.  The timetable could change, they may find that other issues take precedence or a number of other things.

Again, huge caveats: Predicting changes we are discussing making but haven’t made yet is fraught with peril. – Ghostcrawler

What encourages me the most, is that Ghostcrawler listened.  Not only that, as much grief we give him (myself included), he has made a HUGE step towards redeeming himself.  By listening to the hunter community, and admitting that they made a mistake is no small feat.  This is something we all should tip our hats in respect to GC and his team.

…I only wanted to address this issue because it caused a lot of consternation in the community.

I don’t mind admitting when we make a mistake in the hope that it builds our credibility in the community. This was one. It won’t be the last. :) – Ghostcrawler

So, there we have it.  Kudos to GC and his team.

And as stated here many times, with the new patch, new changes.  As Hunters have always done, we will adapt and change to find ways to keep doing our job, DPSing our hearts out to the best of our ability.
