Things that make Brig Stop, Think, and Ponder

thoughts[1]Welcome to my first post on thoughts and ponders. Here is where I look at different things out in the WoW Universe, whether it’s a post from the Lodge Forums, Official Forums (Player or Blue Posts), even Twitter. Even questions asked via email to brigwyn@brigwyn.com.

Over time, I’m hoping to tackle your questions and suggestions.. So please email me, post a comment her or over on the Lodge Forums.

So let’s get to this week’s thoughts and ponders…

Thought of The Day:

“Is World of Warcraft truly so big, and so popular that they can afford to send players packing?”

With Blizzard topping out at over 11.5 million subscribers , Wrath of the Lich King alone added over 4.5 million new players (source). Only in the last monthly Wrath was knocked out of the #1 spot by Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II. (source) But are these numbers and this pace of growth really enough to justify ever telling your customers to go to the competition?

Well, recently Ghostcrawler said this very thing not once, but twice (at least that I’m aware of at this time) on the official forums (source 1, source 2). It might be just a response to those that constantly QQ about their perceptions of the current state of the game, their class, or just some other general complaint.

I find this even more interesting, considering recently that recently Melinda French Gates (Yes, that’s Bill Gates wife) recently talked in Vogue Magazine how Apple iPhones are not allowed in the Gates household. Why? Because, Apple is Microsoft’s competition and to support the competition just isn’t normal in our society.

And if you think this is only a “Real World” thing and not something that happens “In Game”, when’s the last time you really saw an Alliance player going out of their way to help a Horde player or vice-versa.

Personally, I think comments like these only go further towards promoting animosity between the players and the Blizz development staff. I can only hope that comments by GC were driven more out of frustration of having to deal with daily complaints, stupid comments, and personal attacks. Otherwise, Blizz may seriously think they are so big, that they can send player’s packing. And if that’s true, Blizz may end up finding their numbers dwindling as players to go out and search for another game that offers better or at the least same graphics, mix of PvE and PvP, and Raids and Quests that immerse the player into a world where they truly want to be.

That’s my thought. What is yours?
