Is Being a Geek a Requirement For Playing a Hunter?
I was wondering something this morning. For the most part we Hunters seem to be really geeky. Now don’t get all upset and out of sorts, we are. (Trust me, I of all people can say this.) But here don’t believe me how about I just put some observations.
- We have 2 not just one but TWO Hunter DPS spreadsheets (that I know of).
- If you Google Warcraft Hunter Blogs you’ll end up with “about 6,050,000″ results (no I didn’t check them all, but feel free to do so.)
- We have 6 active Hunter Forums listed on the side, include the Lodge Forums.
- As a question about any mundane, arcane, trivial Hunter mechanic and someone, somewhere will not only be able to give you the latest “proven” theorycraft on the topic, but also the history of it. (Yes, I’m guilty of such also.)
- We love our custom UI’s
- If our custom UI’s break we’ll QQ about how we can’t play without our custom UI’s (alright enought about the UIs)
- Macros!!! We LOVE Hunter Macros. (speaking of which I think I forgot to give Zurom his account after rebuilding the Lodge.. Sorry Zurom email on the way.)
- I gurantee that there’s a Hunter out there that can list the Best In Slot for each Hunter Spec (which is sad, because you’d think there’d be just one but no.. we know what makes them different.)
- If you decide to ask “Hey.. I’m only abot to do 5,300 DPS as a Marksman is why can’t I do more?” Someone will sure to look up your spec, gear, and then proceed to tell you how your latency will affect your DPS. (Latency? We really get down to that point also? ok..ok. that would be 11 so I’ll stop there.)
- The Official Hunter Forums are a hotbed of debate about all of the above. (So I guess that makes 7 active Hunter forums I have listed.. forgot one)
The point being, we Theorycraft the HECK out of our class. All for the sake of min/maxing at end game. But I challenge you this. Have you ever thought, “Hmm.. wonder if I specced this way what would happen?”
Well I have, and I”m loving it at the moment. (Yes, maybe that’s #11 speccing some strange spec to see what it does and then be able to write about it later. 
My Turtle (FatElvis – yes, I have this Elvis theme get over it.) he just sits there and let’s mobs bash on him over and over and over. Matter of fact, I’m specced so heavily Beast into Beast Mastery that we’ve taken so long killing so many mobs I’ve actually had respawns sneak up and kill me. (Now talk about embarrassment? Oh well.)
What’s nice about that? Well, it’s kinda like having your very own PocketPally. (ROFL! Take that Bubblebutts RetMonkeys)! What does this have to do with my being a WoWGeek? Well like I said, I’m writing about it? Secondly, because I used many of the tools stated above to learn how to spec myself and pet to get to this point.
