Hunter 101: Focused Fire Means Faster Kills
Alright.. Our role as a Hunter is to provide DPS consistently. Meaning, our jobs are to remain alive, and keep on firing shots and arrows into our assigned targets.
The easiest way to start looking like some sloppy, underachieving, stereotypical Hunt***d is to just forget everything we’ve learned and just go firing off willy-nilly at any mob of our liking.
Seriously though, one of the most effective way we can do this is to make sure we attack the correct target at all times. You’d be amazed at how difficult this seems to be for Hunter’s nowadays.
This is one of those other things I’m noticing with Hunters. They’ve seem to have forgotten the concept of Assigned targeting and focused fire.
Now how does this work your asking? It’s a REALLY simple concept. You focus your pet and all your shots on the designated target. Now what is the designated target? Well, when you solo, it’s easy to figure out. It’s the one with the BIG RED ARROW! pointing down on your mob.
But if your in a group, it’s the disignated target. Now the easiest way to help identify this is to first use those lil “Lucky Charms” (You know, Skull, Cross, Triangle, Star, Squar, Circle, Diamond, etc.. just look at the picture?) Now when your in a group. Ask for the kill order.
This is usually determined by the leader or possibly the tank. Then, ALL DPS unloads their attacks on that target.
Now your probably thinking, what fun is that! Well its a ton of fun to watch these mobs burn down. It’s like having your pet take a pile of mobs and then your constantly following your bouncing arrow with your pet and burning them down. They just go down faster when you work as a team.
Now, as a Hunter you do the same thing. Take your pet, and send it in at the same target. The ONLY time you don’t do this is if your pet is helping to tank a specific mob. Otherwise, keep your pet (Yes you Marksman and Survival Hunters, this means you also) on the same target.
Now as for the order? Well, that’s really dependent on your leader. But let’s just say. It’s almost always Skull, Cross then called out after that.
Now the blue square? Yeah.. that’s your trap usually. Oh? Don’t know about trapping? *sigh* I guess we’ll talk about that another time, in the mean time go check out Pike’s article.
So remember.. FOCUS FIRE on the same mob!! Do this and you’ll notice mobs dying faster, and at the same time you’ll be loved for not making your tanks and healer’s jobs harder.
