The Hunting Lodge is a World of Warcraft Hunter community website. We’re here to help you improve and enjoy playing your hunter. If you don’t find what you’re looking for on the blog, make sure to check out the Hunting Lodge Forums. Also, make sure to listen to The Hunting Lodge Podcast
You know, I’ve always said that out of all the hunter community sites out there that the Lodge is really the best.
Where else do you have people stopping by to join in on some discussions about hunting warlocks, get to ask 20 Questions to people like actress Michelle Boyd, the great Daniel Howell, or the Sr. Editor of WoW.com, Mike Schramm.
That’s just the blog! Our forums are where everyone, from the casual of casuals to the hardest min/max raider, can get together and talk about everything from spec choices to the best way to survive a zombie attack. Then again, I’m biased.
Well I was until I got an email from Kap over at WFT!!! WoWFreeTrial.Info (Ramblings of an ex-WoW Player) yesterday. Here’s what they had to say!
Hi there!
Just wanted you to know that I’m a fan of your blog and read it a lot even though I don’t play WoW anymore (got stuck at level 75), brings me back to those days when I still had the time to play a lot. I’ve been wanting to go back but may be when Cataclysm arrives.
Anyway, I made a blog post on what I believe are the 50 best WoW blogs out there on the net and I included yours in it. Hope you enjoy it. I also added you up to my blog roll!
The post can be found here: http://www.wowfreetrial.info/50-best-updated-world-of-warcraft-blogs/
Keep up the good work!
Kap
Is that not amazing!! They put us in the Top-50 of ALL World of Warcraft sites!?!?
Like I said before! I really shouldn’t be that surprised really. It’s all because of you cool people.
I say this because The Hunting Lodge has had over:
- 11,596,940 Hits from
- 520,049 Unique Visitors from over
- 100 different Countries looking at
- 1,377,465 Pages of World of Warcraft Hunter related information.
That’s just crazy!

gz on been up on top 50 , alot of the websites i never even knew about i going to take a look at them
So, here’s a question: what metric did they use to populate that list (since it wasn’t mentioned in the post)? Are they basing that off Alexa ranking, Technorati ranking, number of subscribers, number of commentors, number of posts, how long the site’s been around, or what? Because unless there’s actually some metric being used to determine who is on the list and who is not, it’s more a “50 of my favorite sites” list than a “top 50″ list, and if they were using one of the aforementioned metrics, then there are some glaring omissions from the list (such as World of Matticus, for example).
I mean, it’s nice that someone thought to put together something like that, and even better for you that you’re listed on it, but I question the veracity of it.
Heya Lass! Thanks for stopping by.
Actually, in Kap’s email that I included with the post it talks about how this is more his personal Top-50. I’m pretty sure it’s more about personal preference than hit count, visits, or some other independent survey.
And last I checked the Lodge was way behind THM in popularity.
Actually when I said “the post”, I was referring to his post. I should have been more clear. Reason being: folks shouldn’t need to go to a secondary source to find that information. For example, what if someone happens across his post via Google?
Hi there Lassirra!
Brigwyn is spot on when he said that it is more of my personal top-50 than a top 50 based on web traffic metrics or any other metrics at that. My list seems to confirm the numbers though especially for The Hunting Lodge (@Brigwyn congrats man you’re hitting traffic in the MILLIONS! I envy your traffic)
At the end of my post, i left it to my readers to email/submit to me some names and indeed world of matticus came often. Since there is a strong recommendation for it, let me add it to the list as soon as possible. Thanks Lassira for the suggestion!
Brigwyn, i’m doing a couple of interviews with some WoW bloggers, topics haven’t been finalized yet but it would seem to depend on the individual blogger itself, just a brief friendly chat, if you’re up to it just hit me up!
I see. I guess my point here is that the fact that it’s your list of your favorite sites (based on personal bias) wasn’t made clear within the body of your post, and the title is misleading. I understand that you probably chose the title you did with Google hits in mind, but not stating clearly that the list was generated based on personal preference is, well, misleading.
If you had called the post “50 of My Favorite WoW Sites”, or if you had left the title as-is and based the list on, say, Alexa rankings, then I would have absolutely no problem with it.
I was included in his top50 as well – I checked out the site and beyond the top 50 list it’s all guide-selling, goldselling advertisments, and a few very basic gold-making guides you can find everywhere. I got the exact same email, copy-pasted down to not even starting with the name of the addressee.
All nice and good, and I would love to accept the best of people, but this just smells too much like getting these bloggers to link to him so his sales go up.
Ive been talking to Kap for a bit now, setting up an interview Q&A thing and he seems like a great guy. Even tho this list is a Personal list Its still cool to know that there are readers out there who Enjoy our blogs enough to post a whole thing about it.
