How Stats Affect Your Gear
Let’s talk about all those phat lewtz that you’re going to be running across, and which pieces are the best.
I’m not going to list every good piece of gear, but I’ll give you the information you need to pick the best armor. We already talked about stats, but let’s look at how those stats fit together.
A great resource is Cheeky’s Spreadsheet. It’s not always exact, but it has proven to be very close. You can download it here:
1) Agility may be king, but it’s not the whole picture. Only Survival hunters need to focus on raw agility.
When choosing between a piece that has high Agility and one that doesn’t, look at what the agility will give you:
1 AP
.025% Crit
Sometimes a piece with no agility but high AP and Crit will be comprable to a piece with high agility.
For example, we’ll look at the T4 chest piece (Demon Stalker Harness) and the Ebon Netherscale Breastplate chest piece.
T4 chest piece (Demon Stalker Harness)
26 Agi
70 AP
Total: 96 AP .65% Crit
Ebon Netherscale Breastplate
80 AP
31 Crit
Total: 80 AP 1.41% Crit
So you lose 16 AP (1.14 DPS) but you gain .76% Crit.
So the Ebon Netherscale Breastplate actually is at worst an even trade-off with T4 (Demon Stalker Harness), or arguably better.
99% of the time, Agility will be your best bet, but at least look at the whole picture.
2) Don’t be afraid of leather!!!!
We don’t get in melee very often, so we don’t need much in the way of armor. If you come across a leather piece that will give you more, take it.
3) Watch for hit-rating items.
You need 9% for bosses to bring your misses to the barest minimum. This works out to 120 (bare min)-142 (max) Hit rating. If you get a good piece with hit, hang onto it until you hit the cap. Also, if you need yellow gems for your meta consider the +8 Hit or +4 Hit/+4 Agi gems.
Anything over 9% is overkill, so at that point, you can start laying off the hit gear.
