Class Mechanics Report from Blizzcon 2008

Well I didn’t get to go, but at least WoW Insider is on the job! :)
Here’s a pretty good class descussion article. It’s short and sure to be missing details, but does help to lend some insight.

1. Ghostcrawler is actually Greg Street a Lead Game Designer (hmm… might have to rethink some of the “conspiracy theories”)

BTW - Anyone have background on this guy?  I think it’s the same Greg Street from Age of Empires but not entirely sure.

2. Hunter Specifc Thoughts

3:49PM GC: “Freezing shot is a way to remote deploy a trap quickly and allows you to get along with a pull.”
3:48PM They want to / have cleaned up the shot rotation a bit with hunters. Make things easier and less reliant on mods.
3:47PM Hunter pet system overhauled because it was “clumsy for new players.” Laughter.

- Greg Street aka Ghostcrawler

3. Direction is to focus on playability not class it seems

4:05PM GC: “Bring the player, not the class.” Lots of applause.- Greg Street aka Ghostcrawler

4.  Duel Specs are coming

4:10PM “If you like to tank on the weekends and PvP on the weekdays this is exactly the kind of thing that will be able to do that.”
4:09PM Not meant to be used in an arena.
4:09PM Respec in the middle of the raid!
4:09PM “Dual specs are coming - more flexibility.” Everyone cheers. Including me.
- Greg Street aka Ghostcrawler

5. A hint at Chilton’s philosophy on class mechanics.

Chilton: “Mechanics of the spell have the potential to be fun… but any ability in the game that does a lot of damage suddenly becomes fun. We [don't want that].”- Tom Chilton aka Kalgan

Read more but I think you get the jist…

It’s OFFICIAL!!! November 13, 2008

Alright.. I’m not one that too often goes off the deep end.

(Well maybe I am sometimes..) But we’ve just been hit with and official release date!! November 13, 2008.
Don’t believe me?  Check it here!!  So now that we have an “Official” Release date, we’ll start keeping you updated on the known hunter changes.   With only a couple of months left, we’ll start seeing fewer and fewer updates to the Hunter changes.  So we can start reporting on what’s going on from the Beta Forums with more assurances etc.. :)

OH!! Did I mention, not only is there a normal release on 11/13/08.  But we’ll also have a Collectors Edition.  And let me tell you what.  I’m going to be extremely excited about this one.

Here’s just a few things that you can expect to see in the CE.

 • World of Warcraft: The Wrath of the Lich King on DVD-ROM.
 • The Art of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, a 208-page book featuring never-before-seen images from the game.
 • An exclusive in-game pet: Frosty, the baby frost wyrm.
 • A behind-the-scenes DVD containing over an hour of developer interviews, the Wrath of the Lich King intro cinematic with director’s commentary, and more.
 • The official soundtrack CD, containing 21 epic tracks from the game, along with exclusive bonus tracks.
 • A mouse pad featuring a map of the newly opened continent of Northrend.
 • Two World of Warcraft Trading Card Game March of the Legion™ starter decks, along with two exclusive cards available only in the Collector’s Edition

This is just too much excitement for me to contain!! WHOOT! and DOUBLE WHOOT!!

WoW!! I Can’t Believe It!! Pre-Release Content Patch

Yep.. that’s right folks. In case you haven’t heard it. Eyonix announced yesterday (it somehow managed to slip under my radar) that Blizz has decided to go ahead and release a patch pre-WoTLK release.

Now some of you might remember that they did this Pre-TBC and everyone was “all a flutter” trying to figure out what it would be how it would benefit them etc…

Well, I can tell you this much (and since it’s already released not much of a spoiler), it seems pretty exciting.

Here’s the list from Eyonix’s post:

 • New class spells and talents
 • Stormwind Harbor
 • Barbershops in capital cities
 • Zeppelin towers outside of Orgrimmar and Tirisfal Glades
 • Two brand-new Arenas featuring challenging new layouts, terrain hazards, and moving obstacles
 • Guild calendar
 • Hunter pet skill revamp
 • New profession: Inscription

Now taking a closer look at these.. The ones I think are most exciting for us Hunters are:

 • Hunter pet skill revamp
 • New class spells and talents

And you Arena Junkies out there might get a kick out of the Two (thats 2) new arenas.

So seeing that this is heading our way, I can tell you that we’re heading for some changes!!
